Katarina Witt first began to skate at the age five. Her talent soon became obvious and she was accepted to a private school that caters that caters to children who have a passion for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Witt is the only female figure skater to win the same event twice in the same year since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt was allowed to resume skating following her successes as a movie actress. She took part in the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Witt was seventh in the competition, and she delighted the crowd even though she didn't win an award. Witt was inducted to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
